Custodial Sexual Violence Research Campaign

As part of its Gender-Based Violence Week 2024, Safe Odisha For Her collaborated with the Centre for Victimological Research and Victim Assistance at RV University Bangalore to examine custodial violence against women and non-binary individuals. Over a five-month internship, 14 students from the university’s Criminology, Cyber Law, and Forensic Sciences program conducted secondary research focused on Odisha and Karnataka. Their analysis highlighted legal gaps, systemic bias, and the urgent need for gender-sensitive policing, stronger accountability, and independent complaint mechanisms. The study, triggered by a high-profile custodial harassment case in Bhubaneswar, lays the foundation for Safe Odisha For Her’s future advocacy and campaign strategies. This led to initiate ‘Erase the Shame’ campaign and the study is still in progress.
