Free Bus for Women and Transwomen

FreeBusForWomen is a statewide campaign demanding free public transport for cis and trans women in Odisha, as a vital step toward gender justice, economic access, and safety. The campaign underscores how mobility is directly linked to education, employment, and dignity, especially for marginalized communities such as domestic workers, daily wage earners, and rural students. In Odisha, over 57.4% of women aged 15–29 are classified as NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), as per the 78th NSSO Multiple Indicator Survey—highlighting the urgent need to remove mobility barriers. On 30 January 2024, a unique Bus Yatra Rally was held in Bhubaneswar, where more than 100 people—including men, women, transgender and queer individuals—joined in solidarity. A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Transport Minister, and the CMO Grievance Cell. The event was widely covered by over 20 media houses.
